There are many factors that can affect how your finished prints look compared to what you see on your screen or in your camera. Our whole industry revolves around colour management issues and how to deal with them. We have spent thousands of dollars on training, monitors and specialized equipment to calibrate them and our printers to ensure that we put out a consistent, quality controlled, correctly colour-managed product.
The first time you see your digital photos will be while viewing them in your camera, then you’ll transfer them to your computer and look at them in a standard program provided by Microsoft or Mac or you might work with other programs like Photoshop, Gimp, CorelDraw or Painter. The results you see will depend on how well your monitor is calibrated.
Calibrating your Monitor
The simplest way to get close to correct colours without resorting to specialized equipment is to compare a standard digital file to a correctly made print like the image on the left here. We can supply you with both and, using the manual adjustments on your monitor, you can get it pretty close. Just email us and request a calibration print, send us your postal address and we'll send it to you.
If you want to go the extra step and calibrate your machine using the right equipment, we recommend you look at the Gretag-Macbeth Eye One as a good starter! We don't sell them but there are plenty of places online that do.
